PLUSEN created a master plan for a 6-acre property that contains the quintessential Virginia landforms: rolling pasture, a protected stream corridor, and a mature oak/hickory forest. Guests travel along the curvilinear drive through the pasture and up a slope into the mature forest where they are greeted with views to the home.
The gardens were designed to take advantage of the different micro-climates of the site including a sunny hillside rock garden, a shaded rhododendron garden and a woodland pool side garden. The pool side garden includes a raised spa, naturalized pool with a boulder diving rock and a vanishing edge to reflect the shadows of the statuesque oak and poplar trees beyond. The majority of the plant material is native to the Virginia countryside.
