The Four Mile Run previously created a pedestrian divide between Alexandria and Arlington, segregating the two community’s trail systems. PLUSEN collaborated with Rosales + Partners to provide a design proposal which celebrates the river by providing observation overlooks, fishing piers, and a kayak launch.
The bridge with its inward tower creates a marker of the crossing. The bridge will span 300’ over the Four Mile Run to connect the trail near South Eads Street in Arlington to Commonwealth Avenue in Alexandria.
This project will include the restoration of the stream banks and the creation of a tidal bar within the immediate area of the pedestrian bridge. The Four Mile Run Pedestrian-Cyclist Bridge will become a highly desired key pedestrian link to Arlington Heights and the City of Alexandria.
